Facilitation skills for volunteers!

Recently Learn to Lead presented a facilitation and training skills workshop for volunteer trainers from the Rape Crisis Centre.

The Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust is one of the oldest and most experienced organisations in South Africa  working to end sexual violence against women.  They work to improve access to care, treatment and justice for rape survivors both female and male.

They provide:

  • Counselling and support services to survivors and their partners, family and friends.
  • Awareness interventions in schools and communities.
  • Empowerment through their Rape Crisis volunteer programme.

The facilitation and training skills workshop is part of our ongoing corporate social investment initiatives in Cape Town. The workshop covered topics such as effective public speaking, tools for creative training and new ideas for experiential learning.

Liezel Van Schalkwyk, Training and Development Co-ordinator at the centre had this to say about Adam and Learn To Lead: “Thank you to Adam and Learn to Lead for taking us under their wings (on a pro bono basis!) and sharing their knowledge and skills with the volunteers of Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust – both the new volunteers as well as with a refresher course for our more experienced volunteers. They all feel very excited and re-energised and cannot wait to use the new techniques and tools to enhance their work. And neither can I.  The workshops are always fun, experiential and filled with tools to enhance the skills of trainers. I look forward to future workshops with Adam and the Learn to Lead team!”

We enjoyed working with the Rape Crisis Centre team and look forward to our next session!

Trainer’s Edge Course: Cape Town!

Last week nine delegates joined us at the Learning Centre in Tokai for two days of learning about the latest tips and tricks in making their training and learning programmes more exciting and interactive. It was a fantastic two days with some of the best trainers and facilitators from Cape Town.

A beautiful start to an awesome training course!

The delegates showed up with high expectations and we certainly delivered on it and more. The two days covered topics such as using creative flipcharts, exploring new activities and games for transfer of learning, new and creative resources to use in training programmes, and exciting interactive tools for a facilitator’s toolkit!

Many of the delegates left the training feeling inspired to spice up their own programmes, and to keep at the edge of their own learning and development. We look forward to assisting them in their journey, and to be a resource for them.

Learn to Lead has Soccer World Cup fever!

l-r: Adam, Kate, Deidre, Alistar

This is what would have greeted you on the 11th of June 2010 at our office in Woodstock!

With the “Waka Waka” song blasting in the background, we danced and blew our Vuvuzela’s for Bafana Bafana and South Africa. The atmosphere was electrifying. We could feel it, it was here. So naturally we did very little real work. But it was well worth it!

The win over France during Bafana’s last match was fantastic, even though it was not enough to get them to the next round. The Soccer World goes on, and so does our support for Bafana Bafana. You did us proud!
